COMPOSTING TOILET
Fowler & C-Scape dune shacks have composting toilets.
The manufacturer guarantees its virtually odorless operation if the following
procedures are followed.
Daily: add 1/2 cup of peat moss per person per day directly through the
bowl.
Daily: Pull the TOP BAR, the "aerator" bar back and forth a few
times to agitate the mass. DO NOT PULL THE BOTTOM RAKE BAR. This bar is
used when we empty the system at the end of the season.
Cleaning: Please clean the toilet frequently as needed:
1. Spray the inside of the bowl with a mild soap and a small amount of water.
2. Clean the bowl as you would a ceramic toilet. The bowl removes for easy
cleaning.
Toilet Paper: Use only SINGLE-PLY TOILET PAPER and do not put anything else
in the toilet. Plastic bags for the disposal of toilet paper are provided.
WATER:
Drinking water will be in plastic jugs in the kitchen. This water is from
the Provincetown water system. Please do not use this water for cleaning
or showering.
At C-Scape washing water is available from the hand pump located in the
center of the circular driveway. It is important that you know how to use
the pump.
Please conserve water.
RECYCLING:
We are committed to reducing the amount of waste generated during your stay
at Fowler or C-Scape. To that end, we provide used plastic grocery bags
(no new trash bags will be provided). Likewise, please keep your recyclable
plastic (with the number 2 stamped on the bottom), glass and metal separated
to be recycled at the Provincetown Transfer Station. We cannot recycle any
othet plastic or food scraps but you are encouraged to take the home with
you.
BEACH ACCESS
There is no direct access for vehicles from the shack to the beach. Foot
passage should only be along previously travelled paths. Do not disturb
plover nesting areas and do not forge any new trails.
According to our agreement with the National Seashore, no pets will be allowed at the dune shack at any time. Pets at the shack will result in immediate termination of the lease agreement.
Dune Shack Etiquette: Please respect the privacy of other shack dwellers. When hiking through the dunes please keep a respectful distance from other shacks.
