The Fowler Cottage is located within the
"Dune Shacks of the Peaked Hill Bars Historic District", east
of Race point Coast Guard Station, in the town of Provincetown. It is
bounded by the Atlantic ocean and a sand access road on the north, by
open dunes to the east and west, and by another sand access road to the
south. The core of the Fowler Cottage, as built by Stan and Laura Fowler
c. 1949, is a 1-story, 3-room, side-gable frame structure supportted by
wood piers. The north elevation originally faced a freshwater pond which
is now filled by the shifting dunes. A gabled bedroom addition was constructed
during the 1950s. The shed roof garage was constructed on the south side
of the core structure during the 1960s. The present bathroom addition
on the west wall of the bedroom was constructed in the early 1980s. Exterior
walls are sheathed with stained wood shingles and painted flat board trim
and the roofs are covered with asphalt roll roofing.
